About
American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network
The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN), the advocacy affiliate of the American Cancer Society, believes that improving access to quality, affordable health care nationwide is critical to winning the war on cancer. By viewing the health care system through the eyes of people with cancer, we see problems that go beyond the uninsured, including the inadequacy of coverage among the insured, too little emphasis on prevention and early detection of life-threatening diseases such as cancer, and insufficient coordination of care for those with chronic conditions. The organizations are committed to conducting scientific research, developing policy tools, advocating for the enactment of strong legislation, and telling the stories of real patients and their families in our efforts to expand access to quality, affordable health care. ACS CAN is highlighting the importance of improving access to care by encouraging the public to sign its presidential candidate petition and through a six-month, 48-state bus tour featuring the ACS CAN Fight Back Express. The American Hospital Association is playing a leadership role in the debate about the future of health and health care. As a nation, we can and must do better. What follows is a framework for change - a set of goals and an agenda for creating better, safer, more affordable care and a healthier America. The Health for Life framework was developed with the support and advice of the AHA Board of Trustees and hospital leaders across America, along with physicians, nurses, business, labor, insurers, consumer advocacy organizations and others. Health for Life is a road map to better health and health care in America and identifies five essential elements of reform to improve the health of all Americans – health coverage for all, paid for by all; a focus on wellness; the most efficient, affordable care; the highest quality care; and the best information. National Federation of Independent Business
National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) is the nation’s leading small business association. With offices in Washington, D.C. and all 50 state capitals, our mission is to promote and protect the right of our members to own, operate and grow their businesses. For more than 60 years, NFIB has given small and independent business owners a voice in shaping the public policy issues that affect their business. Our powerful network of grassroots activists send their views directly to state and federal lawmakers through our unique member-only ballot.
NFIB’s members have cited rising health care costs as their No.1 problem for more than 20 years, which is why NFIB developed the Solutions Start Here campaign as the small business platform for health care reform. By working to engage and educate policymakers about the unique health care issues faced by small business, Solutions Start Here will communicate the concerns and needs of America’s small business community in the national health reform debate. Because when health care is fixed for small business, it’s fixed for America. For more information, visit www.FixedForAmerica.com.
